The 2026 National Bible Quiz Championship got off to a thrilling start as PENSA UCC, AGCM UHAS and GESAM KTU battled through five demanding rounds in a contest that repeatedly changed direction before PENSA UCC emerged victorious.
PENSA UCC finished the opening contest with 29 points, followed by AGCM UHAS on 24 and GESAM KTU on 21. Yet the final standings scarcely capture the twists and turns of a contest in which all three teams occupied the spotlight at different stages.
GESAM KTU Make an Early Statement
The opening exchanges immediately suggested that the championship would not be short on surprises.
AGCM UHAS made a competitive start, but GESAM KTU soon found their footing and began converting opportunities with remarkable efficiency. The contest quickly developed into a battle of precision, with several questions proving difficult for all three teams.
GESAM KTU eventually produced the strongest performance of the opening round, capitalising on missed opportunities from their opponents and securing crucial points when it mattered most.
By the end of Round 1, the new entrants had announced themselves as serious contenders, leading the field with 10 points. AGCM UHAS remained close behind on 9, while PENSA UCC sat just three points off the pace with 7.
The standings were:
- GESAM KTU — 10
- AGCM UHAS — 9
- PENSA UCC — 7
It was an early advantage for GESAM KTU, but the championship was only beginning.

GESAM HOLD on as PENSA UCC Close Gap
The Speed Race brought another shift in momentum. GESAM KTU extended their lead to 12 points, while PENSA UCC moved closer with 10. AGCM UHAS, meanwhile, struggled to maintain the rhythm they had established earlier and remained on 7.
The contest was beginning to take shape around the two teams at the top, but the introduction of the Test of the Day presented an opportunity for the entire scoreboard to change.
PENSA UCC were ready to seize it.
PENSA UCC Turn the Contest Around
The Test of the Day proved decisive in reshaping the contest.
PENSA UCC produced the highest score among the three teams, securing 6 of the available 10 points. AGCM UHAS and GESAM KTU each collected 4 points.
The result was immediate. PENSA UCC drew level with GESAM KTU at the top, erasing the advantage the new entrants had worked hard to establish. AGCM UHAS, meanwhile, remained within reach of the leading pair.
At the end of Round 3, the standings read:
- GESAM KTU — 16
- PENSA UCC — 16
- AGCM UHAS — 11
What had begun as a GESAM-led contest had become a two-team race, with AGCM UHAS still capable of mounting a challenge.
The decisive phase was approaching, and the next round would prove critical.

PENSA UCC Deliver the Breakthrough
Round 4 produced the most significant swing of the contest.
PENSA UCC exploded into the round, adding 10 points to their tally and moving from 16 to 26. AGCM UHAS also made substantial progress, reaching 21, while GESAM KTU could add only two points to reach 18.
For the first time, PENSA UCC had established a meaningful advantage. Their powerful round had transformed a tie at the top into a five-point lead over AGCM UHAS and an eight-point lead over GESAM KTU.
However, the final riddles remained, and with three teams still capable of adding to their scores, the championship opener was far from settled.
The Final Lap: PENSA UCC Hold Their Nerve
The final riddles provided one last test of composure.
AGCM UHAS missed the opening opportunity, allowing GESAM KTU to collect three points and reduce the gap. PENSA UCC responded by answering the second riddle correctly, strengthening their position and keeping themselves firmly in control.
The next riddle produced no change to the standings, leaving PENSA UCC with the advantage heading into the final question.
AGCM UHAS then closed the contest with a successful answer to the last riddle. It was a strong finish from the team, but the points were not enough to overturn PENSA UCC’s lead.
When the final scores were confirmed, PENSA UCC stood at the summit with 29 points, five ahead of AGCM UHAS and eight ahead of GESAM KTU.
The opening contest had its answer: PENSA UCC were the first winners of the NBQ2026 National Championship.

A Statement from the Season Opener
PENSA UCC’s victory was built on their ability to remain within touching distance during the early stages before producing their strongest performance when the contest entered its decisive phase.
Ultimately, PENSA UCC timed their surge perfectly. They survived GESAM KTU’s early challenge, drew level through the Test of the Day, and seized control in Round 4 before holding on through the final riddles.
PENSA UCC have set the opening benchmark for NBQ2026. If the championship opener is any indication, this year’s competition promises shifting momentum, determined challengers and contests that may remain undecided until the very last answer.
