NBQ Ghana Launches the 2024 National Bible Quiz Championship

NBQGhana and the Bible Society of Ghana have launched the 2024 National Championship edition and Preliminary Stage balloting of the National Bible Quiz (NBQ).

The ceremony took place on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the Timothy Generation Chapel of the Perez Chapel International in Dzorwulu – Accra.

The total number of churches participating in this year’s national championship race is 54 across 11 universities.

Out of the total number, 9 churches have already been seeded and would begin the championship at the quarterfinals stage with 45 churches participating in the one-eighth stage.

Also, the churches that would participate in the one-eighth stage were placed in three pots namely; Pot A, B and C with a total number of 15 churches in each pot.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Team Lead of the National Bible Quiz Project, Ps. Abraham Asiedu congratulated all the churches who have battled fiercely to participate in the national championship.

He was optimistic that the churches would do well in the competition and put in all their effort to clinch the trophy.

Ps. Abraham Asiedu noted that the importance of the launch and the celebration was to recognise and appreciate their stakeholders.

He acknowledged the participation of The Bible Society of Ghana as the main Partners, Sweet Muzic Pro Audio, IT Consortium, Ask TK Sounds, Visal Reinsurance Brokers, Nikao Fabrics, Belsmile, Soul Impact Family Production, University of Ghana Business School and Volta Hall, and Fortune Ghana, among others for their commitment to coming on board as sponsors for the project this year in various ways.

He also acknowledged PENT TV, the official TV partner and Sweet Melodies 94.3FM, the official radio partner for the year’s championship.

The Team Lead for the National Bible Quiz Project also thanked his team for their immense contribution to the success of the project over the past years.

There were ministrations from Dave da Music Box, Aldersgate Voice of GHAMSU UG Local and Adlaide Duah.

Speaking at the event, Very Rev. John Kwasi Addo Jnr, the General Secretary for The Bible Society of Ghana, emphasized the necessity of reading and living according to the Bible, referencing the Scripture Text in Psalm 119:97-99.

He encouraged us to engage each other with the Bible, stand without compromising our Christian standards in these perilous times so the world can learn from us.

“We can talk about everybody compromising but as for you, let’s stand for the LORD. Let’s be that remnant that will sustain the heritage that we have sustained from our mothers and fathers and make the LORD proud”, he said.

Speaking at the event on behalf of IT Consortium and the Chango Group Contribution and Crowdfunding Platform, Mr. Yussif Markstar, expressed their gratitude for being a part of a project with the potential to transform the lives of the youth in the country.

He emphasized on the significance of the National Bible Quiz on the intellectual and spiritual growth of young people, citing biblical and scriptural knowledge, development of critical thinking skills, team work and a sense of integrity as qualities that will help young people in their personal and professional lives.

He made a plea to corporate organizations and individuals altogether to come on board to support the project.

“By contributing to this project, you are not just sponsoring an event, you are investing in the future of our youth and by extension, the future of society and Ghana as a whole”, he said.



The one-eighth stage competition is scheduled from Monday 16th to Saturday 21st September 2024.
The churches competing in the one-eighth rounds for the quarterfinals slot were selected from each of the three pots (Pot A, B and C).

One team was picked from each of the three pots to make a contest. This process was repeated 15 times to have the 15 Contests.

The 15 contests for the one-eighth stage are in the image below.

The Team Lead of the National Bible Quiz Project, Ps. Abraham Asiedu, mentioned that the 15 contests will happen over 5 days, 3 for each day. Three more contests will happen on the 6th day between the highest scoring losing teams for the 3 remaining quarter final slots.

He also shared the schedule of contests for the entire period.

He closed with an encouragement to all teams to give in their best and to all Christians across the country to join in person or online as we study the bible together.
