GHAMSU UG Local wins the Maiden Edition of the National Bible Quiz Championship [Photo Gallery]

After two pilot seasons, the maiden edition of the National Bible Quiz Championship was held at the University of Ghana, Legon, in partnership with the Bible Society of Ghana. The 6-day championship started from Monday 4th and ended on Saturday 9th September 2023.

The Championship involved 27 Teams – 9 each from University of Cape Coast and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, 8 from University of Ghana and 1 from University of Professional Studies, Accra.

The national championship started at the quarter finals stage, where 27 teams met in 9 contests.

GHAMSU UG Local faced off against EPSU KNUST and NUPS-G UCC at the quarter finals stage. GHAMSU UG Local won the contest, accumulating a total of 60 points, against 17 and 13 points, accumulated by EPSU KNUST and NUPS-G UCC respectively.


CASA LEGON, EPSU UCC, CCF LEGON, LIFECITY UG, GHAMSU KNUST, DLCF LEGON, DLCF KNUST and PENTEFEL UCC also won their respective contests to earn them spots in the Semi-final of the 2023 National Championship. Their qualifications to the Semifinals of the 2023 National Championship earned them seeded status for the 2024 National Championship.

In the Semi-finals, 9 teams met in 3 contests. GHAMSU UG Local faced PENTEFEL UCC and GHAMSU KNUST in a very heated contest. Eventually, GHAMSU UG Local won it in the 5th and final round of the contest with a total of 44 points against PENTEFEL’s 38 and GHAMSU KNUST’s 32 to earn themselves a spot in the Grand Finale of the 2023 National Championship.

EPSU UCC beat CCF Legon and CASA Legon to reach the final. DLCF KNUST also beat LIFECITY UG and DLCF Legon to book the final slot in the Grand Finale.

The Grand Finale was set with the 3 teams – GHAMSU UG Local, DLCF KNUST and EPSU UCC. It was a close one, down to the wire but after answering two riddles correctly, GHAMSU rose from 5 points behind to winning the contest with a 1-point difference, with a total accumulation of 47 points, against DLCF KNUST’s 46 points and EPSU UCC’s 33 points.

So, despite falling short and placing 3rd in the 2023 UG Championship, GHAMSU UG Local became the winners of the maiden edition of the National Championship of the National Bible Quiz.
